Trigwell goes the extra metre to seal county gold triple
KINGSKERSWELL-based athlete Josh Trigwell ran more than 5,000 metres in 48 hours last weekend at the Devon Athletics Championships held at the Exeter Arena, claiming all three gold medals in the process.
Josh's father Glenn says it is widely believed that the 18-year-old is the first Devon athlete to hold all middle distance titles of the 800m, 1500m and the 3000 metres in one season.

Trigwell's coach Brian O'Hare said he may as well 'tear up all his coaching manuals' when it comes to Trigwell as the level of performance he achieved in all three events in the amount of time he did should be 'technically too difficult'. Trigwell arrived at Exeter Arena on Saturday for the first of his three events, the 1,500m, and led from beginning to end to claim his first gold medal in a time of 4.02.
On Sunday, Trigwell then competed to defend his 3,000m title.

He stayed inside the top three throughout the majority of the race before making his move with 1,000m to go. After taking the lead, he held on for a victory – and another gold – in a time of 9:08.
Only two hours later, Trigwell ran in the 800m final. Again Trigwell led the pack for the majority of the race and though he faced competition from last year's runner-up Rocky Harrison in the last 300m, the runner held his nerve.
Trigwell won with a new PB of 1.57.02, more than five seconds faster than his previous best, to claim the hat-trick of wins.
Speaking after the final race O'Hare added: "Josh is the most committed and dedicated athletes I've ever had the pleasure of working with."
Leading up to the championships, Trigwell had also attended the BMC Young athletes meeting held at Millfield School last Monday.
In his opening 1500m run of the season, Trigwell secured a personal best of 3.59.06, knocking more than five seconds off of his previous personal best.
It was also the first time Trigwell has broken the four-minute barrier in the distance.
