The contestants will be judged on their staff's knowledge, customer service, marketability and the quality of their produce.

Peter Fraser, manager of Harbour Lights, said, "Everybody is absolutely thrilled as it's been a team effort to get to this stage."

Stein's restaurant is managed by Alison O'Neil and Miles Duncan. Alison said they were both "delighted" to have been shortlisted.

Mitch Tonks, who co-owns Rockfish with Matt Prowse, said he hoped it would be "third time lucky" in this year's competition.

"This is our third time being shortlisted for an award and we're just as delighted as ever," he said."The industry we work in is brilliant and so are the awards. We try and offer customers a complete dining experience and are constantly training staff so they are as knowledgeable as possible about our food."

The finalists will be announced next month.
