UPDATE: Blackawton lorry crash casualty airlifted to hospital

Police were called to the scene of a crash between two HGVs which blocked the road at Blackawton near Datmouth.

The collision, which involved an Isuzu 7.5 tonne breakdown lorry towing a car and a 38-tonne heavy goods vehicle, happened around 9.50am today between Norton Park and The Sportsmans Arms on the

Firefighters found a 37-year-old Dartmouth man trapped in one of the vehicles and released him using two sets of hydraulic rescue equipment and small tools.

The Devon Air Ambulance flew one man to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth for treatment to a broken leg.

The other driver is thought to be unharmed.

Police closed the road between Dartmouth and Halwell Cross for five hours while police investigations took place.
