DRIVERS making their way to work across Torbay faced traffic chaos this morning as the seafront road was closed.

A combination of high tide and strong winds forced the closure of the seafront road at Livermead, Torquay.

Drivers making their way through back roads in Preston and Shiphay were causing long tailbacks.

Rail services were also disrupted by flooding at Dawlish, with no trains running between Newton Abbot and Exeter for a while and buses taking passengers instead.

Torbay councillor Mike Morey wrote on Twitter: "Sea Front closed in Torquay closed due to strong winds and high tides. In Brixham, we are all on the beach basking in a heat wave!"

The seafront road was reopened at 11am.
