VIDEO and PICTURES: Thousands pour on to the streets as South Devon celebrates Jubilee
THOUSANDS of people took to the streets of South Devon over the four-day holiday weekend to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
One of the biggest events took place in Hele, Torquay, where one of the busiest streets in Torbay was closed to traffic.

In place of its regular streams of traffic, Hele Road hosted a huge street party, with children sitting down to slap-up party food.
There was street entertainment, a talent competition and a host of stalls and sideshows.

In Brixham the whole of Fore Street was closed as a line of tables stretched from one end to the other, each packed with families and friends sitting down to picnic meals.
Elsewhere there were celebrations of all kinds.
In Paignton's Laura Grove there was Maypole Dancing and games in the closed street, and in Young's Park there was live music and a songs of praise event.
Dart Avenue in Shiphay had live music, fun and games and a magnificent display of machinery from the Torbay Mods scooter enthusiasts.
In Shaldon and Teignmouth the party went on with a gathering on the Den and a lavish street party through the centre of Shaldon.
In Torbay the music went on late into the night on Torre Abbey Meadows, and beacons were lit at Berry Head, Corbyn Head and Daddyhole Plain before fireworks lit up the night sky over Torquay seafront.

“Why did all the councilors just attend that Party? There were several other street parties in the bay, so why not split up and attend different ones? Or was it safety in numbers and didnt want to answer some intelegent questions?
I wonder if any of them eat any of the food from the Hele party?
I bet none of the councils reply.”

“What a street scene, a man with a white dog on a chain in case the dog bites you, the filthiest street in Devon, 'Charlie Drake" Stringer choking on his chain, Excell taking a photo of the road, Hernandez hanging onto his arm, Cowell has two photos, the first one he is attempting to break win, the second he succeeds, two police cadets,. One thing they all have in common it is the first time they have walked through Hele.
A kid threw a drinks can in front of my car when driving through the village on Saturday, he was about six, I shouted for him to pick it up, and four kids who were at the crossing all shouted "F*** off mister" the oldest was six...what must their parents be like.
Good old Hele village never alters.”
