Torquay United got the Johnstone’s ‘Paint Pot Challenge’ ball rolling for 2013 by becoming the sixth club this season, and the first of the New Year, to compete in the inaugural initiative.

Manager Martin Ling and nine players represented the npower League 2 outfit in their brush with fame, which tests the crossing accuracy of the most competent footballer.

The ‘Paint Pot Challenge’ involves players trying to chip a ball from the corner of the 18-yard box into an inflatable paint pot situated in the middle of the six-yard line.

A perfect ‘lick’ for a successful chip-in brings ten points, while there is one point for attempts which ‘brush’ the paint pot.

While six Torquay players ‘brushed’ the paint pot at their Seale Hayne training base in Newton Abbot, a perfect ‘lick’ proved elusive, leaving the Gulls to settle for a total of six points.

“It was great to see Torquay not only take part in the ‘Paint Pot Challenge’ but also really enter into the spirit of it,” said Ben Wilde, Johnstone’s Paint Brand and Sponsorship Manager.

“Martin Ling and the players really enjoyed getting involved and they had a few near misses in their efforts to chip the ball in the paint pot.”

Oxford United continue to blaze a trail at the top of the leaderboard with Coventry City second on 25 points and Sheffield United third on 14 points.

The overall winners at the end of the season will claim the top prize of £2,000 worth of Johnstone’s Paint product.

The second and third place teams will win £1,000 and £500 worth of Johnstone’s Paint product respectively.
