A VISIT to Brixham Battery helped local primary school children complete a project on the Second World War.

The work by youngsters at Eden Park is now on display at the historic venue for their parents and grandparents to see.

Head teacher Ken Kies said: "The museum curator, Phil Trayhorn, invited children from Years 5 and 6 to complete some research on some major questions about the war, including finding out about the most important battle and why the war ended.

"The children then worked in groups to produce answers for the museum, using original material, books and the internet.

"They also received visits from a number of grandparents and older friends of the school who gave a terrific insight into what life was really like during this time.

"The work the children have produced is now displayed at the museum for families to go and see.

"The children are all thrilled that their own work has made it into a museum as proper historical research.

"The study ended with a full VE day street style party held all along a school corridor.

"The children wore authentic clothing and also ate food from the time.

"I am very proud of the children's work and delighted to be making such good links with a local organisation."

Mr Trayhorn also praised the pupils' work, saying: "It's very impressive and will be on display in our archive building until Easter."
