WELL done Mark Green (HE, March 8) and Jim Parker (Parkers Pen, March 8). I fully agree, 'cream teas and cows alone won't save our bacon'.

In this financial climate people are turning to UK holidays again but they have to be offered the amenities and entertainment they have become accustomed to abroad if they are to continue spending their money at home. Wake up Torquay, the fish restaurant is a great idea and there have been many great ideas in the past that have never come to fruition because of the short-sighted views of people who want to live in the past. The result is a dilapidated seafront (the old Palm Court) and a town full of boarded up shops and pubs.

This is a lovely area, Torquay's heritage can remain intact but it must be enhanced by some modern facilities if the town is to survive!
