A SPONSORED walk between Torquay and Paignton may have raised more than £1,000 for African orphans.

The walk, by supporters of the Bumala Trust, started from the Babbacombe Inn, Torquay, and finished at the Park Hotel in Paignton and many of the 17 walkers were in fancy dress.

Spokesman Anne Jenkins said: "We would like to thank everyone who sponsored us, and contributed on our walk.

"We are hoping to have raised enough money to enable our bore-hole in Bumala, Kenya, to have an electric pump fitted which will give clean water to our orphans and widows and irrigate the land.

"So far we have raised around £1,000 with more sponsor money to come in.

"Thanks also go to the Babbacombe Inn for allowing us to start from its premises, the Park Hotel for providing its function room after our walk, and the Hiflyer Team for supporting our charity with raffle prizes and letting our walkers experience a free balloon ride."
