Warning over water bills
A MOVE allowing businesses to shop around for water suppliers threatens to slap an extra £10 on household bills in South Devon, it has been warned.
South West Water has told MPs the planned introduction of competition into the industry for commercial customers will 'inevitably' impact on other consumers.
In evidence to a parliamentary inquiry, the firm points out some costs and services which benefit households more, such as bad debt and installation of water meters, are currently recovered across the whole customer base.
And 'unwinding' these cross subsidies would increase domestic bills by as much as £10.

Woman, 81, dies after home fall
AN 81-year-old woman died at Torbay Hospital after suffering a fall at her home.
An inquest has been opened into the death of Vera Bain, a widow who lived at Emmetts Park, Ashburton.
There are no suspicious circumstances.

“2 Points to raise here:
1. How can allowing business to shop around, saddle domestic customers with £10? A bad debt should not be written off it should be recovered (yes I know by its very definition a bad debt can't be recovered). The instilation of water meters is supposed to save both the consumer and supplier cash, so if it isn't why do SWW try to persuade us to fit one? (or am I being too simplistic?)
2. The unfortunate demise of Vera Bain has no headline and is added to the end of a totaly unrelated story and headline, my 4 year old could proof read this website better than the current editor. I suspect Vera's family would not be pleased to see this.”
