Willows steal victory in final leg

OLD Ilminsterians must wonder what they need to do to win a match in the Torquay Skittle League after they scored a massive 445 at home to the Willows and left them 77 to win – and lost by two shots.

Willows' anchorman Rob Netherway (69) hit the spare required to win the match 447-445.

Janet Clements toppled the highest lady score of the season with 73. Her scores were 16, 9, 13, 13, 6, 16 for Old Ilminsterians.

The highest gents' score this week went to Marcus Whittle of the Signers with 74. Signers defeated Division Seven leaders Bay Blues 404-384. John Welch made 68 for Bay Blues.

Taxis defeated third-placed Buddies 380-361. Mark Hills notched 63 for Taxis and Ken Evans top scored with 54 for Buddies.

Taxis now lead Division Four after Babbacombe CC B lost 361-359 to Knockers.

Knockers' final leg of 66 made the difference. David Gardner made 55 for Babbacombe and David Worth 53 for Knockers.

Acorns won their top-of--able clash with Whistlers, who had an off night winning 365-322. George Shepherd top scored with 52 for Acorns.

Guys & Dolls are now joint top of Division Six with Crusaders after they defeated Sixes N Sevens 361-401 and Crusaders lost to Royals 348-342.

Mike Stacey and Keith Powell shared top score for Guys & Dolls, both with two spares in their 60s.

WIZZARDS are this season's Totnes League Division One champions, winning the title by three clear points.

Top team score from the Men's League was the Bric-A-Bracs with 519 in their victory over the Screwdrivers,

Three other teams scored more than 500: the Swashbucklers (512) against the Fords' 507 and the Wizzards scoring 501 in their win over the Wrecks which clinched the title.

Top individual score was Phil German of the Swashbucklers with 105 to help his team to beat the Shot. Colin Hoskin of the Bric-A-Bracs scored 100.

The ladies were busy with the pairs competition.Top scoring pair from the ladies was the Alley Cats with 187 in their game against the Allsorts.

Top individual was another player from the Alley Cats – champions from last year's competition. Sara Ellis with 102; one other player scored a century Chris Rive from the top-scoring Alley Cats team with 100.

Two U21s clashed when Tom Edmonds of the Rugby Club played against Liam Bligh of the Saints.

Both lads rose to the challenge, top scoring on 99 for their respective teams.
