Woman, 28, died after being hit by train, inquest told
A WOMAN who died after being hit by a train in Newton Abbot has been named.
Carmen Lynette Ricketts, 28, was struck by the 9.22pm Exeter Central to Paignton service on Thursday, January 26.
She was treated by paramedics and a doctor at the scene and transferred to Torbay Hospital where she died.
Police from Newton Abbot where called by ambulance and found the woman alive but seriously injured.
An inquest into her death has been opened. It was told that Ms Ricketts was born in Hatfield, Hertfordshire.
She was on the railway line close to the train station and stood in the path of the oncoming train, the coroner was told.
The cause of death was traumatic head injury and abdominal haemorrhage.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: "Officers from BTP and Devon and Cornwall police attended the incident, which was reported to police at 10.19pm, and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
"Medics worked on the woman at the scene before taking her by ambulance to Torbay Hospital, where she died in the early hours of Friday, January 27."
