Women drop trousers on Paignton Pier in name of charity

TWO women are have dropped their trousers in the name of charity for a 10km trot along the seafront.

Emily Heather and Hayley Williams walked as best they could with their trousers around their ankles from Paignton Pier to Brixham breakwater to raise money for the charity Toilet Twinning.

The charity was set up to help the 2.6billion people across the world without access to a safe, private and hygienic toilet by encouraging people to twin their toilet with a new latrine in Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Bangladesh or Cambodia.

The exact location of the twin latrine can also be pinpointed using Google maps.

Emily said: "The idea behind the charity really grabbed my attention and caught my imagination because it was an unusual charity.

"I started brainstorming toilet-related ideas to try to come up with a great fundraising idea and settled on this one.

"If you do something that's a bit brave, or a bit stupid, people are much more likely to take notice and get involved!"

By raising sponsorship money from the trot Emily is hoping to twin her own toilet.

The charity is a partnership between development agencies Cord and Tearfund , who send teams and local partners to work with communities to build the thousands of latrines which have already been twinned.
