STEVE WOODS has accepted a financial settlement and terminated his contract with Torquay United.

The long-serving Gulls defender was told by manager Paul Buckle last month that he would not be offered a new deal in the summer.

Woods, 32, says he has not pursued a loan transfer over the last few weeks of the season to avoid the risk of picking up an injury which might affect his prospects of a permanent move during the summer.

Woods, who played 281 times for United over eight years at Plainmoor, said: "I will look to train with somebody. Whether that's on the doorstep or a bit further away just depends what's on offer."

    “Gary,

Of course everybody is allowed to have an opinion. Me living in Holland has nothing to do with this. I know what Steve Woods did for our club (he got paid for it!) and I respect that. He's been a good servant.

It's the constant negativity against Paul Buckle that irritates me.

Can you tell me why the club (not PB) wanted to get rid of Steve Woods? Isn't it possible that Steve Woods himself created this situation?”

“Gary I happen to agree with you on the Steve Woods saga but don't have a pop at Rob for supporting the Gulls and living in Holland. He has just as much right to put forward his views as the rest of us (my first visit to Plainmoor being in the 1950s).”

    “Gary and Doug,

Please support Torquay United Football Club instead of posting these ridiculous and negative comments.”

    “Right on Gary!

Woodsie get my vote! Not for this whole shambolic situation that Buckle has created, but for the quality football Steve has played this season!

I actually feel let down by the club. I foolishly thought that we treated our players with decency and integrity.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mansell, then Hargreaves are next.

If it were me, I'd not be looking to get rid of the people on the pitch.......”
