Work begins on long-awaited £110m Kingskerswell link road
Building has officially started on a £110 million new road which is expected to attract nearly 8,000 new jobs.
A turf-cutting ceremony yesterday marked the launch of construction of the long-awaited South Devon Link Road, which is designed to eradicate the notorious traffic bottleneck into Torbay.

Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: "The road will bring major benefits to the area – both economic and social – and the improved transport system will also dramatically reduce congestion, improve road safety, enable better public transport and make a significant impact on air quality.
"We expect construction work to cause minimal disruption and we are committed to maintaining regular communication with residents and businesses to keep them informed of progress."

Construction of the three-mile dual carriageway, discussed since the 1950s, is being carried out by Galliford Try.
Torbay Mayor Gordon Oliver said: "I'm pleased that construction work has started. It is a key milestone and moves us one step closer to the new road, which will improve the future prosperity of Torbay.
"We will continue to work closely with Galliford Try during this construction phase and will endeavour to keep disruption to a minimum."
