WORK has started on a new Asda store in Paignton.

The supermarket giant has taken over the former Focus DIY store off Brixham Road and work has begun to convert the disused site into a 17,000 sq ft store (pictured).

Asda, which is owned by US firm Wal-Mart, said it intended to open its new Torbay store in the summer.

It is understood the supermarket could create 150 jobs.
