Worldwide dance smash kicks off theatre season
PLYMOUTH'S Theatre Royal has a packed spring season ahead.
It will be kick started by the musical Dirty Dancing which comes to the venue from January 22 to February 9.
Seen by millions, this world-wide smash tells the classic story of Baby and Johnny, two fiercely independent young spirits from different worlds, who come together in what will be the most challenging and triumphant summer of their lives. Featuring hit songs including Hungry Eyes, Hey Baby, Do You Love Me? and the heart-stopping I've Had The Time Of My Life!
It's followed by an the all male Shakespeare Company, Propeller, who make a triumphant return to the Theatre Royal with Twelfth Night and the Taming of the Shrew. They'll be at the venue from February 12 to 16.

Cole Porter's timeless classic High Society skips into town with a new production from February 19 to 23.
Adapted from the 1956 film starring screen legends Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly and Frank Sinatra, High Society bubbles with a host of beautiful ballads including True Love, You're Sensational and Well, Did You Evah.
The charming, poignant and compelling tale Driving Miss Daisy arrives at the Theatre Royal from February 25 to March 2 and this will be followed up by performances of Aladdin by Birmingham Royal Ballet from March 6 to 9.
The international hit show Jersey Nights comes to Plymouth for one week only from March 11 to 16.
It will take audiences on a musical journey celebrating the greatest hits of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
A story of love, courage and sacrifice during the Great war is brought to the stage in the production Birdsong.
The show, which runs from March 18 to 23, is based on Sebastian Faulk's best selling novel.
The acclaimed Hofesh Schechter Company returns to the Theatre Royal with Uprising and The Art of Not looking Back on March 26-27.
In Uprising, seven men emerge from the shadows and bombard the stage with furious energy set to a throbbing score, playing with the idea of masculinity.
The Art of Not Looking Back is inspired by, and made for, the world class female dancers of the company, exploring loss and separation.
Song, dance and comedy are very much at the heart of That'll Be The Day which will rock the venue on March 28.
Featuring hits from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s it's a real feel good show.
The Welsh National Opera are also in town from April 2-6 when they present
Lulu by Berg, The Cunning Little Vixen by Janacek and Puccini's Madame Butterfly.
The shanty men of Port Isaac will hit the road and will stop off in Plymouth on April 7.
Port Isaac's Fisherman's Friends will enthral audiences with their voices in a rousing of joyful shanties and Cornish folk songs.
The spring season concludes with Sutra on April 9 to 10.
Sutra is a collaboration between Turner Prize winning sculptor Anthony Gormley, choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and 17 practising Buddhist monks from the Shaolin Temple in China. Aged between 10 and 26, the monks follow a strict Buddhist doctrine, with kung fu and t'ai chi martial arts forming part of their daily ritual.
