Yelverton cyclist killed in road race collision
A cyclist from Yelverton has been killed in a collision with a car during a road race on Sunday.
Junior Hefferman was taking part in the Severn Bridge Road Race, over a 66-mile course in Gloucestershire. He was on his second lap of the circuit when he was involved in a head-on collision with a car. The race was abandonned following the tragic incident.

Hefferman was an experienced cyclist and road-racer who had won four races during 2012. He had posted on his blog on Friday "This weekend will be the 3rd and final race of the Springtime Pursuits on the Saturday, followed by the Southern Semi-Classic, the Severn Bridge Road Race. This will be my first race alongside members of my new team..."
The president of British Cycling, Brian Cookson, said "This is a tragedy which will profoundly sadden everyone associated with cycling in this country. My thoughts are with Junior's family and with his friends."

Bristol Road Club - organiser of the event - said in a brief statement on Twitter on Sunday afternoon "Such an awful tragedy at the Severn Bridge RR today. The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Bristol RC are with Junior Heffernan's family."
