Eight fire crews sent to Shaldon thatched roof blaze
EIGHT fire crews from all over South Devon were sent to a thatched roof fire at Shaldon yesterday.
The alarm was raised at 2.30pm in Higher Ringmore Road when the owner of the property called to say her thatched roof was on fire.

Crews were sent from Teignmouth, Torquay, Dawlish, Newton Abbot, Totnes and Honiton.
On arrival the crews found a small fire within the thatch on the roof of the property.

They quickly got to work ripping the thatch to get access to the fire, using one short extension ladder, thermal imaging camera, drag forks and a hose reel jet.
An area of approx three metres by five metres was damaged by fire, the cause of which was accidental.
