“Well it does have two very big hotels on it, lots of little hotels and quite a few shops. It is however very close to the 'facilities' that we provide for drug addicts, alcoholics, sex offenders and other criminals, so it is only a tourist area in daylight hours, a 'no go zone' during the hours of darkness.”

“I don't know what criteria was used by HughFarquhar to judge that Torquay is no longer "Fit for purpose" as a family resort but I fairly sure that if those criteria were applied to many tourist place in this country and abroad they would not pass. A lot of families go to London for visits and holidays and there are a damn sight more hazards for tourists there. I know London is bigger but even if one looks at the problem on a "pro rata" basis I would think London is worse. Also the same could be said of Paris even further afield in Spanish resorts they have a problem but the tourists still go to these places.”

“OK, Spanish resorts - you have to suffer some druggies but you get THE SUNSHINE. Paris - you have to suffer some druggies but you get GREAT RESTAURANTS. London - you have to suffer some druggies but you get A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF TOURIST ATTRACTIONS. Torquay - you have to suffer some druggies but you get ..... er .........er ........ what do you get in Torquay? .....mugged!”

“HughFarquhar you obviously never go anywhere, mugging is a much bigger problem in London than Torquay. and comparing Torquay, London, Paris and Spanish resorts I would say that Torquay is the safest. Torquay is a lovely town, much better than Brighton, and every time I visit I always enjoy it. You haven't mentioned the variety of beaches and the beautiful coastal walks around the bay. The worst thing can think of is the possibility that I might have the, unfortunate, pleasure of meeting. you.
The trouble with you HughFarquhar is your unbelievable negativity which is stopping you seeing the good things in Torquay and you are, in my opinion, showing off your own stupidity by continuing to live in a town which you hate.
Also before you comment on my living in London. I used to live in Torquay, have a property in the area, visit 3 or 4 times a year and intend to retire there.”
“As a family resort is Torquay ''No longer fit for purpose''. When you walk through the centre of the tourist area (Lucius Street, Belgrave Road, Abbey Road) and you have to tell your kids ''Look out for dog poo and broken beer bottles, and don't touch any syringes'' what hope is there of tourist families coming here”
