“Ive seen the series Drug addicts and scumbags though. Funnily enough it did feature Torquay as its main headline.”

“Someone should tell that deputy manager that his dyed hair looks terrible!”

“It's unbelievably bad publicity for Torbay. We look as if we're stuck in a bad 70s sitcom hotel with George and Mildred in the bridal suite!”

“When asked if he would stay there, the manager replied ' Do you think the owners of Primark wear Primark clothes ?'. Says it all. Worst bit of PR I've seen in a long time.”

“Watch the interviews on ERTV (English Riviera TV) on the web.
Someone once said that there is no such thing as bad publicity. I don't necessarily agree but I think he had more than 35000 hits on the Grosvenor web site after the first episode and is pretty much sold out for this year!”

“I wish you people would stop knocking Torbay so much. Tourists don't travel there just to see your fancy Geopark, Hot Air Baloon, sea life centre, etc. Like the tourists who come here, in Scotland, they do so mainly to see the scenery, meet the people who live there & enjoy the NATURAL attractions that these places have to offer; & you people (like us up here) have that in abundance. The local people I have had the fortune to meet & talk to since going to Torbay on holidays for almost the past 40 years have been so friendly & welcoming. That is something you can't buy.”

“Atleast someone's trying to bring some interesting attention to the Bay! If we all stopped moaning about it and supported our local businesses then maybe we'd all be happier. If I see one more travelodge pop up where a hotel/guesthouse used to be I might cry! If you've got some ideas to improve the Bay why not stand up and get it organised instead of sitting on your backside and reading the paper?!”

    “Well said HarryMac,

Torbay's beauty can give most worldwide locations a run for their money. Okay, some elements of the town need some work. But no location is perfect. I live in Torbay, and when I go on holiday - I go to Torquay, Paignton or Brixham. And on the odd occasion, I've even been known to go abroad....to Teignmouth.

And to the cast of 'The Hotel', well done for being such sports and making us laugh!”

“Quite so, DevlinMallard. We in Teignmouth do have a particularly exotic environment, it has to be said. I sometimes get out my passport and go on clothes-buying forays to Torquay, admiring the spectacular views of Dartmoor and Lyme Bay on the way over. I make a point of parking in the Montpellier Road car park so I can walk along The Terrace and admire the view over the Marina.

And if I ever go on holiday in Torquay, I'll choose the Grosvenor, no doubt in my mind!”

“What is at the heart of the show is not the area, but the attitude and persona of the clown who is running ?? the hotels in the group (there are three) who has no respect for staff and see's them as a disposable annoyance. His record here will no doubt be made clear. Other hotels in the bay have a different outlook and reap the rewards, just check trip-adviser. I was a millionaire he boasts, just like Del-boy.In fact they should call it -Only fools and hoteliers.”

“Does anyone think this a golden opportunity for some smart destination marketing? People will watch it and go online looking for more. TOWIE won a BAFTA for goodness sake and it's no done Easy jet any harm. Just look at the pictures of Torbay in these videos - http://tinyurl.com/6v7k7bz

“I haven't seen any of the series but what's this about Torquay going 'up-market'?

I remember some ludicrous comment from a councillor that talked about a 'better class of punter' coming by 'a better class of coach'. I think he got paid for initiating that report too....Pity he didn't bother to consult anyone interested - like the coach operators.

Twenty years on and still Torbay council is beyond hope.”

“I watched this tawdry programme last night and what a load of utter rubbish. I honestly feel sorry for anyone who stays there. There were a couple of good shots of Torquay but one thing that was annoying was the extensive use of swearing and the 2 old blokes on holiday together who came across like dirty old men.”
