Submariners' visit sponsored school

Saturday, July 04, 2009, 07:00

THE kind-hearted crew of HMS Torbay handed over much-needed money to their sponsored school.

The submariners had held a fundraising evening for Mayfield School, collecting £200 to commemorate its 50th anniversary.

They handed over the money during the Torquay school's annual fete, when Lt Cdr Dave Barron-Robinson paid tribute to the staff and pupils.

He added: "It was great to be able to spend some time visiting our affiliated school.

"As we have spent so much time away, our links with the school, Sea Cadet units and other affiliated organisations have suffered.

"This was a great opportunity to get to meet all of the people who support us while we are away."
