Helen award for Charlotte

Wednesday, July 30, 2008, 07:00

YOUNG artist Charlotte Knaggs, eight, has been given a Helen Foundation award.

The budding actress from Stokeinteignhead gained the accolade which is awarded to support the aspirations of young actors, musicians and artists in Teignbridge.

Charlotte goes to Stokeinteignhead Primary School where she enjoys drama.

Class teacher Joanna Crathorne said: “Charlotte has a keen love of the arts and always enjoys creating works which are quite accomplished for her age.

“In her free time, Charlotte can be found doing something creative. Her performance in The Tempest earlier in the year showed great skill and was fantastic.

“We recognise Charlotte's love for the arts which made her an obvious candidate for the Helen Foundation award.

“She is truly deserving of the award and should be very proud of her achievements so far.”

The charitable trust and its award were launched in January 2006 as a memorial to Roger and Annie Kirk's daughter, Helen, who died tragically aged 24 after a road accident the previous December.

Helen, who loved acting, was committed to the power of the arts to make a real difference to young people's lives.

The award was presented to Charlotte by Mr and Mrs Kirk.

Mrs Kirk said: “It was fun to be able to award The Helen Foundation Award in person. Not only is Charlotte an acceptable artist but we had seen her in The Tempest and also Stokeinteignhead's summer musical.

“Charlotte clearly has multi-faceted star quality, and the determination to succeed, which The Helen Foundation Award is all about.”
