Kate, whose debut novel The Russian Concubine was published in 2007, has proved an immediate hit all around the globe.
The Churston writer's inspiration came from an unexpected source — her mother, who revealed to Kate late in life that she was from Russian stock. Once Kate had come to terms with these astonishing revelations, she realised that her mother's life story had to be told, so she researched the era and gave full reign to her imagination.
The result was an epic novel in the true sense, spanning countries, generations and cultures.
Her latest offering, The Concubine's Secret, is already flying out of shops around the world, and she will be signing copies at Torbay Bookshop, Paignton, tomorrow from 10.30am.
