Historic cave deep in economic value
The attraction is shortlisted to be named the Best Tourism/Leisure Attraction at the South Devon Excellence Awards.
Owner Nick Powe said Kents had enjoyed a great year, with investment the key to success.
He said: "It is very exciting to have been shortlisted for the South Devon Excellence Awards.
"We have, for the last few years, relentlessly ploughed every penny back into the business to improve our offer and our all-year-round appeal.
"While staying visitor numbers to the resort have been in decline, we have managed to create jobs and grow by controlling our costs and finding new ways to attract visitors.
"This week's Macbeth Underground is practically sold out, and the Global Geopark, which we were instrumental in bringing to Torbay in 2007, are just two examples of projects we have been driving forward to give visitors a new reason to spend time not just at Kents Cavern, but on the English Riviera."
The category is sponsored by Shearings. Kents Cavern is up against Pennywell Farm and Paignton Zoo. It is being judged by Lucy Ball, chief executive of Torbay Town Centres Company.
Now in its third year, the main sponsors and organisers of the awards are Torbay Development Agency, South Devon College, South West Innovation Centre, the Herald Express and Kitson Hutchings.
Exhibition stands are still available for the Business Excellence Exhibition to be held on Thursday, November 19 at South Devon College. Contact Dominic Bryant 01803 676213 or dbryant@heraldexpress.co.uk
