Homers Heath set for a memorable date in New Year
It's the date for Buckland Athletic's home clash with Plymouth Argyle in the second round of the Westinsure Devon St Luke's Challenge Bowl.
Buckland thumped Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Premier Division rivals Elburton Villa 6-0 in the previous round whereas Argyle had a bye along with Devon's other league clubs Exeter City and Torquay United.
And it's the tie Buckland manager Phil Bayliss craved the most with him being closely linked with members of the Home Park hierarchy and a lifetime Pilgrims fan.
"I don't suppose for one moment they'll field their Championship League side, but neither do I think they'll underestimate us," said Bayliss.
Argyle were one of the first sides to grace the Homers Heath turf after sending a side to mark the official opening of the Buckland Athletic clubhouse by the then manager, Bobby Williamson (the pitch was officially opened by Exeter City's Director of Football and former Spurs and England star Steve Perryman).
Western League Dawlish Town are also through to the second round after their 8-1 demolition of Bovey Tracey.
They entertain Willand Rovers in round two, while Dartmouth AFC host Bideford, Exeter City travel to Ilfracombe, Ivybridge Town entertain Tavistock, Torquay United are away to Plymouth Parkway and Barnstaple Town await the winners of the delayed opening round tie between Cullompton Rangers and Clyst Rovers.
SHEAR SOCCER, headed by former Dawlish Town player-manager Adam Shearer, have linked with Stoke Gabriel FC in putting on two one-day courses for 'football crazy' youngsters during the Christmas school holidays.
The first will be at King Edward VI Community College, Totnes, on December 22, followed on December 23 at Stoke Gabriel's Broadley Lane where Shearer will be assisted by former Plymouth Argyle and Torquay United midfielder Kevin Wills, now Stoke Gabriel's Football in the Community Officer.
The courses, for boys and girls of all abilities aged six to 13, will be from 10am-3pm each day, and held in association with Plymouth Argyle Youth Development, who will recommend any players showing promise to train at the Plymouth Argyle Development Centre.
The cost is £12.50 per day with a £5 discount for those booking both courses. Application forms can be downloaded by visiting www.shersoccer.co.uk, and further information obtained by calling Adam Shearer on 07967 124 844.
In addition to medals and trophies in small sided games, all players will receive a complimentary selection box and put into a draw for some excellent prizes, including a pair of football boots.
THERE was no winner of the jackpot in the Brixham Villa FC Weekly Lottery drawn at The Skipper Inn, Brixham, on Monday. As a result, the bumper cash prize when next drawn at The Coach House, Paignton (9pm), will have risen by £50 to £5,550. This week's numbers were 4, 7, 28 and 30 with the following Lucky Dip winners: £50 - Dave Williams (Brixham Trawler Agency); £20 - Margaret Hall (Brixham); £10 - Clare Hall (Brixham), Betty Campbell (Brixham) and Mary Chudley (Brixham Hospital).
