Paignton man in court over $12m poker chip theft
A PAIGNTON man has been accused of stealing poker chips worth $12million.
Ashley Mitchell (pictured), 29, of Little Park Road, was committed to Exeter Crown Court after it is alleged he obtained the online poker chips then sold them over the internet.
Mitchell did not enter a plea to the charges when he appeared before magistrates sitting in Torquay yesterday.
At a previous hearing magistrates heard he allegedly sold the chips for £50,000.
Mitchell faces three charges under the proceeds of crime act of concealing, disguising, converting, transferring or removing criminal property, namely online poker chips, by selling them over the internet between June and September 2009.
He is also charged with concealing his proceeds by transfer to his bank account in August 2009.
And he is accused of causing a computer to perform a function to secure unauthorised access to a programme or data held in a computer with intent to commit an offence between June and August 2009.
He will appear at Exeter Crown Court on December 17.
