The trust is working with University College Falmouth and the California Institute of the Arts to find better ways of ensuring that students find employment.
A delegation of six arts educators is in LA for an exchange, arranging discussions and workshops to develop entrepreneurial skills in budding artists.
These skills are aimed at helping to prepare students for sustainable careers in the arts.
Peter Boyden, director of arts for the Dartington Hall Trust, said: "One of the most pressing issues for the arts in the UK is the challenge of converting a creative degree into a creative career.
"Therefore we are collaborating with University College Falmouth and the California Institute of the Arts, one of America's foremost arts universities."
In April 2008, University College Falmouth merged with Dartington College of Arts to create a new institution.
Professor Alan Livingston, Rector of University College Falmouth, said: "Following our merger with Dartington, this visit to America presents a fantastic opportunity for the college and the Dartington Hall Trust to work together on a very real and pressing issue in arts education.
"The exchange will offer a unique opportunity to develop educational models that will benefit emerging artists at regional and international levels — and, ultimately, boost our creative economy."
