Day out at zoo
The zoo hosted an exclusive animal encounters show for the youngsters with the National Blind Children's Society.
They had the opportunity to handle a number of exotic birds including macaws, parakeets and even a snowy barn owl.
The event came as part of a family fun day at the zoo, one of a number of regular events organised by the NBCS.
Taking advantage of the sunshine, the children had the chance to explore the zoo.
A NBCS spokesman said: "The day was absolutely fantastic, we were really lucky with the weather.
"All the children had an amazing day and particularly enjoyed the animal encounter where they could actually touch the birds, they found it very exciting."
The children and their families were treated to a buffet lunch ending with a strawberry gateau and chocolate cake.
