A TORQUAY photographer has returned to the Bay with a stunning collection of underwater shots.

Former Torquay Girls' Grammar School student Kate Westaway has returned to Torquay for the summer after spending months abroad diving and taking photographs underwater.

Kate went on a three-month dive expedition photographing sealife in exotic locations such as the Caribbean, Egypt and Mexico.

Her previous work has included taking underwater stills of Angelina Jolie at Pinewood Studios for the movie Tomb Raider II.

Kate said the highlight of this trip was spending an hour swimming with an infant humpback whale.

The eight-week-old calf measured four metres long and swam with the group of divers while his mum slept on the ocean floor.

Kate said: "He was all over me. It was terrifying and exhilarating, one of the best experiences I have had in my life.

Kate supplements her income working as an assistant TV producer for survival expert Bear Grylls as well as with her work for Waterbabies who operate at several pools around the Bay. Their photo shoots take place in Exeter.
