A TORQUAY man faces two charges of possessing an offensive weapon in public, including a cross bow and three bolts.

John Doyle, 40, of Ilsham Drive entered no pleas to possessing the cross bow and a kitchen knife with a 19cm blade in Hele Road, Torquay on May 28.

He also failed to enter a plea to possessing a bladed article, namely a kitchen knife with a 24cm blade, in Hele Road on the same date.

He is due to stand trial at crown court. Torquay Magistrates set a committal date of November 7.

Doyle, who is unemployed, did admit to driving a Vauxhall Astra car in Hele Road on May 28 without a licence or insurance.

Defending, Ben Darby said: "There is no suggestion of dangerous driving and no suggestion of speeding."

For driving without insurance, Doyle's licence was endorsed with six penalty points and he was fined £100. For driving without a licence, he was fined £40 and his licence was endorsed.

He was also ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge and £60 costs.
