PAUL and Rachel Chandler, the couple who were captured by Somali pirates at the end of October, now face a new year as captives.

The pair have just spent Christmas in the hands of the pirates who snatched them from their yacht off the east coast of Africa.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office say they have had no news to release about the couple although they are still monitoring the situation and offering support to the family.

Mr Chandler's 98-year-old profoundly deaf father Alfred lives in Churchfields in Dartmouth.

Mr Chandler senior's daughter Jill Marshment did not want to comment on her brother and sister-in-law's situation.

Mr Chandler, 59, and his wife were sailing near the Seychelles when they were hi-jacked by pirates who are demanding a ransom for the couple's release.

WE have been asked to clarify that planning permission granted for the £2.5million development at Curledge Street Primary School does not include the closure of a road splitting the site, as reported in the Herald Express on Monday.

The road plan will be discussed by planners at a later date.

We are happy to set the record straight.
