Silver success for South Devon pair

Silver success for South Devon pair

TWO members of the special needs class at South Devon School of Gymnastics put in medal-winning performances at the Snugs competition at Milton Keynes.

Liam Goodman, seven, and six-year-old Damon Barlow competed in the Level A U10s class.

Liam was awarded silver for beam, silver for vault and was also runner-up for the floor routine.

Damon, meanwhile, claimed runners-up spots on the beam, vault and floor routine.

Gaevyn Allwood also competed well, finishing fourth in the floor routine and vault for the Level One U13s group.

Head coach Rosemary Johns, who was assisted by daughter Sarah, said: "It was a brilliant achievement, considering it was only their second competition."

The South Devon School of Gymnastics and the special needs class are run in the Rotunda at Oldway Mansion in Paignton.

However their current lease is due to expire later in the year, and a major cash injection would be needed to fund repairs needed for a renewal of the lease.

Meanwhile, the club are desperately seeking new premises to keep their facilities open.

They are also on the lookout to boost membership – for more information or to help in any way, call Rosemary on 07764 152288 or South Devon Special Needs Gymnastics on 01803 523774.
