STAVERTON B won the annual Meadowbrook Five-a-side Tournament on Sunday after getting the better of The Oldies by one goal in extra time.

Only one of the 24 teams didn't turn up, and the 23 were whittled down to four semi-finalists at The Dorothy Elmhirst Park, Dartington.

In the first semi, The Oldies beat So Real Madrid 1-0 while Staverton B beat Waldon A on penalties.

Tournament organiser Terry Parsons presented the trophies, including the Shinners Bridge Garage Shield, while the referees were Andrew Distin, Denis Gourd, Nick 'Sticks' Gornall and Alistair Muirden.

Mr Parsons said: "I'd like to thank Frances Parsons, Shirley and Barry Hard, Will Fitzgerald, Ken Phillips, Phil Collins, Simon Boon, David Prout and manager Ian Pearcy for making it a most enjoyable tournament."

● APOLLO REDS and Galmpton were the first winners to be crowned at Abbotskerswell's five-a-side tournament on Sunday.

The Reds beat Exmouth Eagles in the U12s final, while Galmpton got the better of Ipplepen Reds in the U10s competition.
