They have named 23-year-old Liverpudlian Anthony Doyle as their 'most wanted' in South Devon after the crime victim — and Doyle's partner — suffered a suspected broken jaw in an assault at her flat in Rose Court, York Road, off Babbacombe Road.
Police spokesman Insp John Phillips said: "We have tried all lines of inquiry available to us to find this man. He remains at large — so we are now asking Herald Express readers if they can help us in our search."
He revealed that the Crimestoppers charity is offering a substantial cash reward for any information they receive which results in the arrest of Doyle.
It's believed that Doyle may still be living in the Torquay area but the police search is being extended across South Devon.
Insp Phillips said any information received from the public would be treated in the strictest confidence.
He said Doyle's partner had been the victim of a 'violent assault' at her home on October 13. As a result she had sought hospital treatment for facial injuries, which included a suspected broken jaw.
The Crimestoppers 'bounty' was being offered as part of a new campaign by the charity to encourage a greater flow of 'third party information' in connection with matters of domestic abuse.
"We will always take positive action in relation to offences of domestic abuse. In line with force policies we need to ensure victims of this crime are provided with a positive police response," said Insp Phillips.
And he promised: "We will take all possible steps to make these victims feel safe in their own homes."
Anyone with information about Doyle or his whereabouts should ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
