£140,000 project opens up scenic Paignton route for cyclists and walkers
WALKERS and cyclists will benefit from an improved link between Torquay and Paignton.
A widened shared footway/cycleway is being created through Hollicombe Park and Hollicombe Head, with a new ramped section to join Marine Parade.

The work forms part of the National Cycle Route through Torbay, providing an off-road route to avoid the main roads through Preston.

The £140,000 cost of the scheme is being funded from central government.
Substantial earthworks will be carried out to create a ramped path at the Preston end, which can also be used by those with disabilities or with young children in push-chairs. Currently there are steps.
The works, covering around 600 metres, are expected to take about four months to complete. Footpath diversions will be in operation, and will be signed to advise people of the alternative routes.
Cllr Robert Excell, Torbay Council's executive lead for safer communities and transport, said: "I am pleased we are now extending the National Cycle Network in Torbay further and providing a good quality off-road route which can be enjoyed by cyclists and pedestrians.
"Quality routes such as this help to promote sustainable transport in Torbay. Residents and visitors who wish to cycle or walk can enjoy a traffic-free environment and stunning views.
"Further links along the seafront areas at Preston and Goodrington are either undergoing, or are due to undergo, consultation in early 2013 with a view to extending this National Cycle Network in the near future."
