Chairman Sue Cousins said: "This has been a lot of hard work in gaining this, but it is all worthwhile as it will benefit this brilliant centre and the local community."

The cash will be spent over the next five years and will fund the Family Learning Programme to help vulnerable families gain the skills and knowledge to improve family wellbeing.

The cash will help pay for a part-time programme manager and a part-time family support worker based at the centre.

Sue thanked David Gibson from Sanctuary Housing who helped in writing the bid.

She said that the new staff will work with other agencies in Torbay and will complement the services already on offer at the centre.

The centre now offers a new young mum's group on Fridays from midday to 2pm with support on healthy eating, parenting issues and budgeting.

Sue said: "It is so important to use this centre. I do feel that sometimes the local community forget about the Windmill.

"It is a wonderful facility we really need to use this building to sustain it for the future. Once again, a big thank you to the Big Lottery."
