STARING open-mouthed, I gawped in awe as Cirque de Glace hit the ice at Torquay's Princess Theatre.

I was transfixed by the jaw-droppingly good display from the Russian ice stars.

The performance was executed with an astounding grace, agility and stamina, the likes of which I've never seen.

Dancers in colourful costumes filled the ice for a dazzling show with a serious message, taking us from the dawn of creation to the threat of global warming.

I was almost offended by the talent of the skaters and acrobats. Surely, it was beyond human ability to be that good.

Being a former gymnast, I was better than your average schoolgirl partaking in the sport, I have some idea of the training needed to achieve such a display.

But even with that insight, I was astounded. Some of the performances ware simply beyond comprehension.

Death-defying ariel displays, performed without safety wires left me with my heart in my mouth.

The shapes and lines of each performance were choreographed and executed to perfection.

Jumps and leaps pulled off without a hint of trepidation were magnificent on such a small stage.

A stage that earlier in the day I'd been concerned about falling off while performing the simple act of skating forwards.

Skaters spun so quickly they were a blur against the beautifully lit backdrop.

Fire, hula hoops, a large wheel and poi poi were all used as props in the mesmerising display.

A show that was quite simply out of this world, I was spellbound throughout.

Go and see Cirque do Glace, you won't be disappointed.
