All About the Money

My partner and I use to love the Eastern Eye the food is superb. We have been on many occasions, but the last time we went we booked for the 7.30 slot on a Saturday night and were only allowed the table for a couple of hours before we were put under massive pressure to leave as the next people coming in wanted it!! They are all about bums on seats and money especially on a Saturday, it wasn't relaxing just waiters going a hundred miles an hour to get the food on the tables, to hurry people up!!!! My advice is if you want a relaxing meal with no pressure don't go here avoid it at all costs!!!! Your plate will be whipped away before you have chance to finish your food!!!!!!

    Valued Customers?

“We have been going to the Eastern Eye for Thirteen years and would like to think that having visited the place over One hundred times that our custom would be valued.
However last week I took my wife there on her birthday, the restaurant was about a third full and we were shown to a table.
We couldn't help but notice that alongside us was a massive table laid out for over a dozen people, and we queried if another table was available for us......it wasn't.
The large party arrived just as our food was arriving, it was obvious that this party had been celebrating already and they were fuelled up on booze and very noisy.
We asked the waiter if he could calm them down a bit but he said he couldn't, napkins were then knotted up into makeshift balls and these were thrown around their table.
When I called the owners brother over to complain that one had landed on our table (in our food) he offered to move us......halfway through our meal!

We declined and asked for the bill so we could leave, my gripe with the Eastern Eye, and we consider the owner to be a friend, was that they were more interested in the money being spent from the large group (which turned out to be 14/15 people) than they were in looking after regular and loyal customers.

To say this has upset us is an understatement, as I think the Eastern Eye had a duty to protect and look after it's customers....rather than see a large group of revellers and the money they would be spending as a priority.

Great food, but too busy to serve!

“I must admit, I've been to the Eastern Eye in the past and had a lovely night out, but last summer my family certainly had a bad experience. Booking a table for a large group (it was a birthday celebration) the restaurant were too busy to sit them down when they first arrived. When they were finally placed at their table, they were rushed to finish their food (plates were taken away with food on) and despite spending a large amount of money, they were pushed out of their seats in less than an hour! The food is delicious, and some of the nicest in Newton Abbot, but for this reason it gets really busy, and my advice is to go on a quiet night, to avoid disappointment!”
