It's 'Wheely' great to be back in Bay!
THE company aiming to bring the English Riviera Wheel back to Torquay this summer said they hope to repeat its popularity.
The wheel was a major draw to the town last autumn before it left for Christmas in London's Hyde Park.

James Mellor, group director of Nottingham-based business Mellors Group, said: "Following the success of last year's visit we are greatly looking forward to returning to Torbay with the English Riviera Wheel.
"It proved very popular during its brief stay last year and has given the profile of the area a much deserved boost. We hope that residents, tourists and businesses will once again support us."

The return of the wheel which, at nearly 60 metres high, is taller than Nelson's Column and provided breathtaking 360 degree views across the Bay, proved to be one of the many local highlights of 2012.
It will again be located in Princess Gardens, Torquay, subject to planning permission.
Carolyn Custerston, chief executive of the English Riviera Tourism Company, said: "We are thrilled that the English Riviera Wheel is returning to the resort as it proved a very popular new attraction last year and provides visitors with a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the amazing panoramic views across South Devon's beautiful bay." The installation of the wheel will take about one week in late May or early June, by ten fully trained and qualified personnel, using an in-built hydraulic system, and will be transported to Torbay on ten specially adapted trailers.

“Whilst it is good that it is coming back I do wonder if a different location each time might create even more interest. One of the problems with the balloon was once you had done it there was no need to do it again as the views etc didn't change. Even a small change of location/angle would make a ride on the wheel a completely different experience to last time.”

“I agree this is great news. The wheel looks fantastic by day and night and it makes such a strong and bold impression on the seafront, it makes Torquay look like a place where things are really happening, I can't wait for it to return. The new promenade will be opening this summer too just across from where the wheel will be so lots to look forward to for Torquay.”

“What a pity that the Council cant afford its own Wheel.Mind you it would have probably

“This is great news for the bay. Make it a permanent fixture. Just the sort of thing the bay needs. It's in the right position and at the right price. Something the balloon couldn't manage.”
