Behind the scenes look at work on Torquay's Torre Abbey
AN exclusive opportunity to have a look behind the scaffolding at one of the area's most exciting building sites is being offered to residents.
Kier Construction, currently working on the £5million second phase of works at Torre Abbey, is taking part in Open Doors Weekend, a pilot nationwide project from the construction industry which invites members of the public to visit a site in their area.
On Friday, November 9 and Saturday, November 10, Kier will open up Torre Abbey for tours so people can learn more about the project, its development and the world of construction.
Kier contracts manager, Simon Parsons, said: "We are really looking forward to opening up Torre Abbey to the public and showing the public the kind of challenges working on a Grade I listed building presents.

"Our team has a great deal of experience in using the time-honoured materials and skills needed to meet English Heritage requirements and visitors will also be able to watch a demonstration by our carpenters, who are keen to show off some of the traditional craft methods they are using on this ancient monument."
The Open Doors scheme is being trialled across the country and is the result of a partnership of four leading industry bodies, UK Contractors Group, CITB-ConstructionSkills, the Considerate Constructors Scheme and the Chartered Institute of Building.
Torre Abbey site will be open on Friday, November 9, from 9am to 4pm and on Saturday, November 10, from 9am to 1pm. For more details or to register for a tour, visit www.opendoorsweekend.co.uk
