A TWO-SHOT penalty wasn't enough to stop Neil Goddard winning Stover's first medal competition of 2010 on Saturday.

Ten-handicapper Goddard won Division One with a nett score of 68, which included the penalty for hitting his own golf bag with his second shot on the 13th hole.

Second was John Hayman (7) also with a nett 68, losing out on the back nine.

Third was Alan Hewings (6) with a nett 69 on countback from Andy Rich (6) and Don Bissell (7).

Division Two was also decided on countback with John Searle (17) edging out Nigel Cooper (21) after both returned nett 67s.

Third and fourth were John Roberts (15) and Eddie Crosby (21) both with nett 72s. There were 22 twos, each worth five golf balls.

PENNY Stevenson topped the Silver Division as Stover's ladies played their first EWGA Medal of the year.

It wasn't a qualifier because temporary greens were called upon, but Stevenson's nett 70 won from Olga Lidbury (72) and Jane Crump (73).

In the Bronze Division, Barbara Percy won with a nett 71 from Rickie Pawsey (73) and Judith Moran (75).

Angie Hickey returned the best gross score of the day with 86, and also had one of three twos. Cath Hayman and Rickie Pawsey had the other two.

STOVER'S ladies and seniors' sections joined forces for a Texas Scramble competition, won by Sue Burke, Glynn Harrison, Clive Garbutt and Allen Joint with a nett 59.4.

Margaret Allen, Jill Little, Cress Waldron and Ray Sewell were second with 59.5 while Eunice Evans, Muriel Waldron, Ron Ebutt and Richard Aldridge came third with 60.7.

Carol Luscombe, Gwyn Hughes, Bob Burke and Roger Shaddick (62.2) were fourth; Jan Hayman, Sue Jones, Eddie Crosby and Chris Clayton (62.8) fifth; Alison Cull, Angela Aldridge, Ian Clarke and Derek Goodall (62.8) sixth; Megan Sewell, Penny Stevenson, Geoff Rees and Richard Emery (63.4) seventh; and Anne Bowry, Sherill Searle, Tony Parr and Larry Birch (63.6) eighth.

All three Stover sections have chosen the NSPCC as their charity this year, and the Scramble raised £110 towards it.
