Dartmouth Apprentice and Dartmouth Museum are offering a special prize to anyone who can answer the question: “Who is Billy Tuppence?”

“Billy Tuppence” is a man in a picture in the museum’s extensive photo archive: wearing posh clothes but with old shoes and a tattered bag. No one can seemingly answer the question: who is this man?

The two charitable organisations are holding a special fundraising quiz on October 17, hosted by historian and writer Phil Scoble. There is a prize for the team who can answer the most questions correctly – a bottle of wine and a trophy – but there is a special additional prize for anyone who can give proof of who “Billy Tuppence” is.

“We have been searching for the answer to this question for months,” said Tim Trent of Dartmouth Museum. “No one has come up with an answer - so now we think its time to offer a prize to anyone who can give us conclusive proof who this strange looking man is! If you think you know come along to the quiz and bring any evidence with you – we will put it to the test and hand over the mystery prize afterwards!”

Dartmouth Apprentice manager Nina Stanesby said: “We are going to have a very fun night with a lot of friends – and it seemed like the perfect time to make a public appeal for information on the illusive Billy! If you have any idea come along to the evening and bring your evidence with you!”
