Fishermen try out new midfield combination

Friday, November 20, 2009, 07:00

BRIXHAM are trying a new 10-12 combination of Ross Edwards and Alex Brown in the re-arranged South West One game at Sidmouth.

Ben Lovell isn't available this week – he is at Twickenham watching England play New Zealand – which meant a gap at 10 to start with.

Brown comes into the centre at the expense of Steve Worth, who drops down to the bench.

"Ross and Alex have been banging on the door from the 2nd XV for a while and deserve a few games to show what they can do," said head coach Dan Parkes.

Flanker Dylan Flasham returns after injury which means no place for Alun Glanvill in the back row.

Competition for back-row places is going to hot up soon as Brian Crighton is on the comeback trail in the 2nd XV after nearly a month out.

Also in the 2nd XV tomorrow is 1st XV captain Adam Thomas, who was injured in the defeat at Hartpury College five weeks ago and is ready to test his match fitness.

"It is good we have players coming back and others pressing for places," said Parkes.

"The Christmas period is coming up and that's a time when your strength is tested to the full.

"There are always people missing over Christmas, but there are important games all through other than Boxing Day."

Brixham's delayed Devon Cup match against Newton Abbot has provisionally been rearranged for January 2.

Paignton and Dartmouth have no 1st XV games this weekend.
