You can't beat a Tweet! Torbay Council celebrates cyber-success
TORBAY Council has hailed its recent Tweetathon a huge success as more than 31,000 people received information on some of the key services it provides in just one day.
The event was part of National Social Media Week and saw officers from various departments across the council post regular updates on Twitter throughout the day using the national hashtag #OurDay as well as #Torbay.

Staff from Torbay Libraries, Customer Services, Natural Environment, Torbay Development Agency, Parkfield and the dog wardens posted updates as they went about their daily work. Local councillors, including Alison Hernandez, Darren Cowell, David Thomas and Matthew James also stepped up their Twitter activity throughout the day and into the evening as they attended a Full Council meeting.

Executive Lead for Involved and Healthy Communities and active user of Twitter, Cllr Alison Hernandez, said: "I am a huge fan of social media and use Twitter regularly to keep residents informed of council business so I was happy to be involved in this latest initiative.
"We cannot ignore the power of social media - after all on this occasion we managed to reach over 31,000 people in one day and at no cost to the council.
"I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the local media for their support and helping us to spread the word."

“I would not vote for any "councillor" who uses Council time to "tweet like bored teenagers - sad people.”
