Pulses race for slick Flashdance
Tuesday, November 18, 2008, 14:36
FRESH faced musical Flashdance has arrived in the Bay and is guaranteed to get pulses racing.
The sizzlingly slick show plays just four months after premiering on the rather grander stage down at Plymouth.
But over the months the team have been busy and, what was an immaculately designed, well produced and brilliantly cast production, has actually got better.
The scale of the set might be slightly more bijou but this show still packs one heck of a punch.
Flashdance follows the trials and tribulations of steel worker Alex (Victoria Hamilton-Barritt) as she tries for a place at the Shipley Dance Academy.
The production is littered with a catchy score including Maniac, Manhunt, Gloria, I Love Rock, and Flashdance— What A Feeling.
The exceptionally talented Victoria Hamilton-Barritt made the lead role her own.
Forthright with an underlining feminine sensitivity she oozed sex appeal and a fair amount of physical strength and she bounded from one scene to the next.
Noel Sullivan was outstanding as Nick Hurley and Bruno Langley recovered well from a sound hitch in his big number as good-gone-bad Jimmy Kaminsky.
Flashdance sets itself apart from other 1980s musicals by its energy, pace, talent, score, set, and cast.
Catch it while it's on your doorstep.
