HEATHER MOSLEY is pledging to walk at least six miles a week for the Herald Express loveLIFE campaign. Heather, who lives in Paignton, had no particularly health reason for putting on her walking boots, but said she wanted to get out in the fresh air and exercise.

In addition to the normal two or three miles she walks a week 'just getting about' she has joined Bay Walks' Saturday progression walks.

She said: "They are a great idea, ideal for like-minded people who enjoy a walk of between four and eight miles on a Saturday morning in convivial company."

Since the scheme started in January she said she has so enjoyed her walks.

"I enjoy their variety; they cover the coast and countryside of the beautiful area of Torbay," she said.

"Additionally, the exercise and fresh air, on a regular basis, can only lead to a bonus of good health. I so look forward to 'our' Saturdays, catching up with the people I know or have met.

"The varied backgrounds of those taking part enable us to share knowledge; from current affairs to films we have seen and books we have read."

She praised volunteers Jim, Sylvia, Maggie and Rod, who put their time and commitment into the project. They ensure the walks are risk assessed and take account of walkers' safety at all times.

Bay Walks is a programme of regular led walks in Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. If you are looking to improve your health, or would like to meet new people, then Bay Walks could be for you. It's fun and sociable to walk with others and in the process you will discover interesting and beautiful parts of the Bay, enjoy the view and feel healthier in all ways. All walks are led by trained volunteers, are free and open to everyone.

There are nine weekday health walks of varying distance and difficulty. Short walks are flat, free from slopes and steps, and are ideal for those recovering from surgery or have limited mobility. Some walks listed within the programme are also suitable for wheelchair users and pushchairs.

In addition, new weekend progression walks are now available. These walks are ideal for anyone who wants to progress their walking to the next level and try a more challenging walk.

Torbay Care Trust is keen to hear from anyone who enjoys walking and is able to give up some of their spare time to become a walk leader volunteer.
